The Martin Theater was built in 1913 which at one time was the only theater between Texarkana and Dallas. Burton Harris purchased the old "Martin" theater on December 1, 1987. With the help of his wife (Anna), Daughter (Gail) and many other generous volunteers the old building was made ready for the grand opening of the Pleasant Jamboree on December 3, 1988.

The musicians for the house band were chosen carefully from a radius of about 60 miles. At first most of the guest singers were from the immediate area but soon the show was attracting outstanding talent from the entire 4 states area and beyond.

Burton and his family owned and operated the Pleasant Jamboree until January 8, 1999 at which time the building and show was sold to Carr Denman Jr. and wife Shirley. The Harris family continued to work with the Denman's until the Jamboree closed for some renovations.

The Pleasant Jamboree recently opened it doors again for weekly operation to an enthusiastic crowd on March 1, 2008. The band and it's members have received much recognition and awards during the years. Several of our cast have worked and recorded with world renowned "Country, Pop, and R & B Stars".

It is certainly a pleasure to back the "Legends of Country Music" but it is also very gratifying to help an aspiring young vocalist in their effort to climb the ladder of success. We are here to provide an opportunity for talented young artists and the accomplished older singers a place to perform in a Family Atmosphere. This gives the public a place to enjoy a clean, affordable and enjoyable show.

The Pleasant Jamboree is located in downtown Mt. Pleasant, Texas -- one block north of the courthouse square. The doors open at 6:30 every Saturday afternoon, the show starts at 7:30 and will go on till 10pm or slightly later. Children under 10 admitted free if accompanied by a parent.
